As we settle down with our family this day let us not forget to pray for those who are lonely and longing for companionship today. Many feel the pain of loneliness – they feel alone in this world, as if no one seems to care who they are and where they are headed.
As we take time to be thankful for what the Lord has blessed us with, please take time to pray for some who is lonely and in need of someone who cares. Ultimately they need to feel the love of the Lord, but the Lord will see you reaching out in prayer and He will give someone strength.
Here is a prayer to consider if you wish to pray for a lonely person in need of companionship.
Loving God, there are times in each life when there is no one.
No one with whom to share
a word,
a laugh,
a sad remembrance,
a gentle touch,
a fond embrace,
a kiss of love.
Bless each one who suffers from such loneliness.
Enrich their life with a friend or gentle stranger who will spend a moment noticing and loving.
In those times your love shines through,
the world is reborn, and Christ is known. So be it!
Amen.
If you are lonely today, remember our heavenly Father loves you. Consider David’s prayers to the Lord in his times of loneliness.
Psalm 139:1-5
O Lord, you have probed me and you know me;
You know when I sit and when I stand;
you understand my thoughts from afar.
My journeys and rest you scrutinize,
with all my ways you are familiar.
Even before a word is on my tongue, behold,
O Lord, you know the whole of it.
Behind me and before, you hem me in
and rest your hand upon me.
Maybe this Thanksgiving season, while praying for a lonely person, consider inviting them over and showing Christ's love to them. We are God's light on this earth, so never forget the people around us and always look for a way each day to show the Lord's unending love to someone who may be lonely this season.
